So I moved.
Held still.
Cut the noise.
Tucked my feet in
so no one stepped
on proof I was there.

I sat near the edge
of every conversation,
reading their moods,
letting their laughter drift
without reaching for it.

The room felt shared,
but the heat moved past me.
It followed whoever
felt easier to claim.

They passed plates.
They passed stories.
I watched each moment
slide by my seat.
They never learned
to include a kid
who stayed cautious.

I figured out early
that loud never guaranteed
a place.
People counted the ones
they noticed first,
and I didn’t land
in that group.

So I slipped back
near the coats,
near the corners
that never changed.

A shape in the room
no one looked at long enough
to invite.
